Infrastructure Migration to Multi-Region Architecture
Expanding our infrastructure to serve customers across Asia Pacific with lower latency
We are pleased to announce the completion of our infrastructure migration to a multi-region architecture spanning Singapore, Tokyo, and Sydney. This migration delivers dramatically lower latency for our Asia Pacific customers, improved fault tolerance through geographic redundancy, and enhanced data sovereignty options for organizations with regulatory requirements.
Latency Improvements
The multi-region architecture routes API requests to the nearest available region, reducing round-trip latency by an average of 65% for customers in the Asia Pacific corridor. Customers in Japan now experience sub-20ms API response times compared to the previous 80-120ms when all traffic was routed through Singapore. Australian customers have seen similar improvements with latency dropping from 150ms to under 30ms.
Real-time features such as conversation streaming and webhook delivery benefit the most from this change. Streaming responses now feel instantaneous for users in all three regions, and webhook delivery latency has decreased from seconds to low double-digit milliseconds for regionally co-located endpoints.
Infrastructure should be invisible to users. When it is working well, they simply experience a product that feels fast, reliable, and always available.
Data Sovereignty
Each region operates as an independent data plane with its own database clusters, object storage, and processing infrastructure. Customers can now choose their primary data region during account setup, ensuring that all conversation data, model outputs, and analytics remain within their selected jurisdiction. This capability is critical for customers in regulated industries such as financial services, healthcare, and government.
Cross-region data replication is available as an opt-in feature for customers who prioritize availability over strict data locality. When enabled, data is replicated asynchronously with configurable retention policies, and customers retain full control over which data categories are eligible for replication.
Failover and Resilience
The multi-region architecture includes automated failover capabilities. If a region experiences degraded performance or an outage, traffic is automatically rerouted to the next nearest healthy region within 30 seconds. The failover system has been tested extensively through chaos engineering exercises and has successfully handled simulated regional outages without any customer-visible impact.
Each region maintains warm standby capacity sufficient to absorb the full traffic load of any single other region. This ensures that failover events do not result in degraded performance for the receiving region. We conduct monthly failover drills to verify that our runbooks and automated systems remain effective as our infrastructure evolves.
Migration Process
The migration was executed as a zero-downtime operation over a six-week period. We used a progressive traffic shifting approach, gradually routing increasing percentages of traffic to the new regional endpoints while monitoring for any anomalies. Existing API endpoints and SDK configurations continue to work without modification - the routing optimization is entirely transparent to client applications.
Customers who wish to explicitly select a region can do so through updated SDK configuration or by using region-specific API endpoints. Our documentation has been updated with comprehensive guides for both automatic and explicit region selection, along with best practices for multi-region application architectures.
Future Expansion
We are actively evaluating additional regions in Europe and North America for deployment in the second half of 2025. The modular architecture we have built makes it possible to stand up a new region in under two weeks, and we will prioritize expansion based on customer demand and regulatory requirements. We welcome feedback from customers on which regions would be most valuable for their operations.
